Coconut oil can help prevent your skin from being flaky and dry. It is an ingredient that is widely used in natural skincare formulas because of its effectiveness in fighting dryness. Many of our body butters and balms contain coconut oil because it is a powerful moisturizer that restores the skin after a hot bath or shower. Because it is a natural ingredient, it helps to eliminate dead skin cells at the same time as it is being absorbed into the skin.
The Vitamin E in coconut oil also helps the skin maintain a youthful appearance. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and contributes to helping a variety of skin issues including eczema, psoriasis and sunburn. It is also antifungal and antiviral so it can be effective in soothing skin irritated by bug bites. That is why we use it in our Aloe & Coconut Boo Boo Balm. The balm can be used to treat sunburn, scrapes and bug bites. Coconut oil also contains several fatty acids that kill candida, which is the culprit behind many fungal infections on the skin.
Coconut oil is solid when cold but can quickly turn into a liquid with a little heat or manipulation. Many of our fall and winter body butters are made with coconut oil because it adds a nice consistency to the butter. Coconut oil’s absorption properties makes it ideal for massage. If you massage with coconut oil, you will see that the skin retains moisture for quite a while. This happens because coconut oil acts as a barrier and helps to eliminate moisture lost through the pores.
Coconut oil has a characteristic scent. Some people love it, some hate it. We only use it in body butter combinations where the scent is complimentary to the fragrance or essential oil. If you prefer a heavier coconut scent, check out our Coconut Cream Body Butter. You can also create your own body butter and select a phthalate free coconut fragrance if you love the smell of coconut.
